Nuh: Communal clashes broke out in Nuh on Monday afternoon after a procession passing through the district came under attack, leaving two home guards dead and dozens injured; including 20 policemen. Sources reveal that a religious procession, ‘Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra’, which flagged off from Gurugram’s Civil Lines by BJP district president Gargi Kakkar, was stopped by a group of men near Khedla Mod in Nuh.
The Nuh clashes lasted for about three hours and triggered mob attacks in parts of Faridabad, Palwal, and Gurgaon, the most severe of them in the city’s south as houses and businesses of members of a community were targeted by another. In Sohna, a rampage saw at least 16 vehicles being burnt and stone-pelting mobs daring cops to stop them. In lieu of this, schools in Gurgaon, Faridabad, and Palwal have been ordered to remain closed on Tuesday.
As tensions grippled the state, the Haryana government imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC in Nuh and Gurgaon. In a response to its request for assistance, the Centre dispatched 20 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).
Meanwhile, Nuh Police held a peace meeting with members of both communities on Monday night, there was heavy security deployment on all roads connecting the Muslim-majority district. Security was also tightened at Char Qutub, an 800-year-old-dargah in Hisar.
