New Delhi: Chairing the Summit in a virtual format, PM Modi on Thursday spoke about 4 C’s of a BRICS Partnership. He thanked the BRICS Members for their corporation during the chairship. Brazil President Jair Bolsanaro, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the meeting. The theme for the Summit was ‘BRICS@15: Intra-BRICS cooperation for continuity, consolidation and consensus’. India outlined the Reform of the Multilateral System, Counter-Terrorism, Using Digital and Technological Tools for achieving SDGs and Enhancing People to People exchanges. In addition to these areas, the leaders also exchanged views on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and other current global and regional issues,
The Summit witnessed an overwhelming response from Russia, China, South Africa and Brazil over India perspective on the Afghanistan crisis, informed Sanjay Bhattacharya, Secretary Consular, Passport, Visa and Overseas Indian Affairs on Thursday. At a press briefing, Mr Bhattacharya spoke about the strong reference to the Afghan issue in the New Delhi Declaration. He further stated that the summit leaders condemned terrorism and suggested that Afghan should not head into drug trafficking which other ways would cause problems to its neighbouring regions stated Russian Prez, Vladimir Putin.
This is the second time Prime Minister Modi is chairing the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) Summit. Earlier, he had chaired the Goa Summit in 2016. The Indian Chairship of BRICS this year coincides with the 15th anniversary of BRICS, as reflected in the theme for the summit.
