New Delhi: Delhi CM Kejriwal on Tuesday, took to his Twitter handle to announce ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the rape victim who was allegedly abducted, paraded and defamed on the streets in Delhi’s Shahdara district last week. The matter will be forwarded to the fast-track court his tweet informed.
“I have ordered compensation of Rs 10 lakh for this daughter. Delhi government will make all efforts to get her justice. We are appointing a good lawyer for her case. We will also fast track the matter so that she gets justice as soon as possible,” his tweet read.
DCP R Sathiyasundaram interacting with media sources informed tightening of security near the victim’s residence to maintain law and order. Earlier, on Monday, the police registered FIRs against those spreading misinformation on Twitter and giving communal colour to the incident.
So far, 12 people including 8 women, one man and three minor boys have been arrested for the alleged act. A case under IPC sections has been registered against the accused.
The case is of a 20-year-old married woman being kidnapped on Republic Day and gang-raped by illicit liquor vendors. A video of the lady half bald, being assaulted and paraded in the colony brought the incident to the notice of police officials. The video was shared by Delhi Commission for Women Chief Swati Maliwal on January 27th.
