NEW DELHI: As per the latest reports, a close aide of ProKhalistani leader Amritpal Singh has been arrested by Punjab police from Hoshiarpur. Papalpreet Singh was nabbed in a joint operation conducted by Punjab police and its counter-intelligence unit. Papalpreet is said to be Amritpal Singh’s mentor. He was allegedly in contact with Pakistan’s spy agency ISI, reports earlier said.
The two according to sources were together since their escape from the Police dragnet in Jalandhar. Investigations revealed the duo had been taking refuge in different Deras in Phagwara town, Nadlon village, and Bibi Village.
The investigation unearthed SCCTV footage purportedly showing Amritpal, dressed in a jacket and trousers and speaking on a mobile phone in Patiala. In a second video from the same extract, Papalpreet is also seen. It is learned that the radical preacher and his friend were allegedly harbored by a woman, Baljit Kaur, at her home in Shahabad in Haryana’s Kurukshetra district on March 19.
Amritpal and his supporters have been charged with storming into Ajnala PS near Amritsar to secure the release of an arrested man three weeks ago.
