New Delhi: A virtual meet was held on Sunday 23 May to decide on the Class 12 board exams and subsequent entrance exams that were postponed due to the pandemic. An “informed collaborative” decision on the Class 12 board exams will be taken at the earliest, stated the Union Education Minister on Sunday after a high level couldn’t arrive at a decision.
After the two hours meeting chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and several others; the states and UTs were directed to submit their detailed suggestions on May 25. Mr Pokhriyal said, “the meeting was extremely fruitful as we received immensely valuable suggestions. I have requested the state governments to send me their detailed suggestions by May 25. I am confident we will be able to arrive at an informed, collaborative decision regarding the exams and remove the uncertainty among students and parent’s minds by informing them of our final decision at the earliest.”
According to officials, the options proposed by the CBSE were discussed focusing on their feasibility during these hard times. However, Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia was not in favour of the options proposed and nudged that going ahead without the vaccination of the students will be a ‘big mistake’.
A large number of students and parents have been demanding the cancellation of the board exams. The hashtag “#cancelboardexams” trended on Twitter as the meeting was underway. The CBSE had announced that a decision on the Class 12 board exams will be taken on or after June 1 when they shut down in March 2020 ahead of the nationwide lockdown.
