At a meeting organised in the Congress’s Sivaganga district unit on Saturday, a brawl broke out between party activists from two factions in the presence of MP Karti Chidambaram. The workers tossed chairs at each other furiously during this time. 

According to sources, the Congress’s Sivaganga district unit called a meeting to examine the party’s strategy for the local body elections and the issues on which it would run. Karti Chidambaram, a local legislator, also attended the meeting. In a video flooding the new portals, two members can be seen flinging plastic chairs at people at the hall’s door and chasing them away . The altercation occurred between two sections of the local Congress unit, with police taking control of the situation and clearing the room.

On September 12, a video of P Chidambaram arguing with a party worker about the local body poll surfaced on social media. According to reports, some members of Congress want to change local officials and leaders in order to strengthen the party in the area. On October 9, local body elections will be held in 28 districts in Tamil Nadu.
