Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday officially confirmed the dates for the Monsoon Session of Parliament: July 21 to August 12. The session will be the first one after a break of three months for Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, and it comes as the country mourns the terror attack in Pahalgam and the Indian troops’ action called Overdrive in response.
The HRD said in an interview that Parliament’s Monsoon Session will begin on July 21 and continue until August 12. The Committee on Parliamentary Affairs has confirmed the dates and will soon share the proposal with Rashtrapati Ji to finalise the summoning of the Houses.”
Many politicians are likely to be involved in heated arguments because opposing political groups want this special session to discuss the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which caused the deaths of 26 people. The incident caused people around India to protest and the country’s armed forces to launch a major hunt for terror camps located over the border, in Operation Sindoor.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, in a statement on Tuesday, asked again for a special session of Parliament, saying, “Leaders of INDIA confirm their urgent request for a special session of Parliament to discuss the events that came from the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025.” He placed a letter before the court, which was signed by opposition figures such as Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee.
Kiren Rijiju said, “Every session matters to us,” to demonstrate that the government has no plan to halt the Monsoon Session despite the opposition’s request. There is expected to be intense discussion and decision-making about national security and adjacent matters next session.
