On May 30, at midnight, the Central Railway has scheduled a major 63-hour mega block that will result in the cancellation of 930 local train services. With the help of this large block, two important stations—Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Thane Station will be able to complete platform extension and widening projects.
Infrastructure Upgrade Alert from Central Railway: From May 31 to June 2, a significant block was completed at CSMT and Thane. This is to widen platform 5/6 in Thane and extend platform 10/11 for improved passenger flow and NI work.
The massive block is expected to conclude on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. It is essential for expanding platforms at Thane station and extending platforms at CSMT. These upgrades are essential for managing the high volume of commuters and raising general efficiency and safety.
Platforms 5 and 6 at Thane are being widened by 2-3 metres. Because of their limited width and the operation of both mail/express and local trains, these platforms frequently encounter overcrowding.
930 local train services will be cancelled by the Central Railway, according to sources: 161 on Friday, 534 on Saturday, and 235 on Sunday. Furthermore, 444 suburban services—seven on Friday, 306 on Saturday, and 131 on Sunday—will be short-lived. There will be 446 local rail trips in all, 307 on Saturday and 139 on Sunday, departing from different stations.
There will be major interruptions to Central Railway, which normally runs over 1,800 local train services per day over its four corridors (Main, Harbour, Trans-Harbour, and Uran). More than 30 lakh people have their commuting needs met by these services.
In order to cut down on passengers, the railways have requested establishment to let their employees work from home or employ other strategies. In order to minimise any disturbance, more buses will be operated by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) and the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST).
