On Tuesday, General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), revealed that India’s rapid action within eight hours ensured the plan by Pakistan to destabilise India over 48 hours was thwarted. In Savitribai Phule Pune University, Gen Chauhan mentioned that Pakistan started the escalation in reaction to ‘Operation Sindoor’ conducted by India to remove terror infrastructure from India, Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Chauhan explained that on the evening of May 10 at about 1 am, Pakistan started several coordinated strikes across the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) to induce India to surrender within just two days. Yet, thanks to the Indian Armed Forces already on notice, they were able to quickly find and destroy the ambush.

According to the CDS, the operations planned for 48 hours ended eight hours into the operation. Indian defence forces hit Nur Khan, Murid and Rafiqui airbases, significantly reducing what Pakistan could do and prompting a quick response in the capital.

Ministries of Defence and External Affairs revealed that Pakistan attacked 26 sites, starting in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir and continuing to Naliya in Gujarat. Nevertheless, Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) was prompted to use the military hotline to propose de-escalation and negotiations.

“Pakistan concluded it could lose more troops if the fighting continued. They asked for a pause in fighting and discussions, and we granted their request,” Gen Chauhan explained. What he has said proves that India is able to guard its borders and retaliate proportionally to aggression from other countries.
