Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has issued an order directing the Maharashtra Police to transfer the investigation of a case concerning sensitive call recordings to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The decision was taken today after realizing that sensitive call recordings were being leaked from the State Intelligence Department (SID).
Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis had alleged there was hectic lobbying by IPS officers for plum postings in exchange for money with politicians. The Mumbai Police registered an FIR in March 2021 against unknown persons under the Official Secrets Act (OSA). While probing for the case, the Mumbai Police recorded the statement of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Fadnavis had claimed that he had 6.3 GB worth of data of call records, naming a few key police officers, obtained from phone tapping allegedly conducted by the then SID commissioner Rashmi Shukla. He claimed that the pen drive comprised of 125 hour long video recordings, revealing conspiracies that were hatched by the Police and members of MVA (Shiv Sena, NCP, and Congress) to frame BJP leasers.
