Balasore: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested three railway personnel in connection with the June 2 Balasore train accident, making its first arrests in the case. The three arrested men are identified as Pradip Kumar Behera, the station master of Bahanaga station, Pradeep Kumar Jena, the assistant station master of Bahanaga station, Ramesh Chandra Maharana, the pointsman of Bahanaga station
The CBI had taken over the investigation of the accident on June 6, after the Odisha government requested the agency to do so. The accident occurred when a passenger train collided with a goods train near Bahanaga station in the Balasore district of Odisha, killing 293 people.
The CBI has alleged that the three arrested men were negligent in their duties, which led to the accident. They are accused of failing to ensure that the two trains were properly separated before allowing them to proceed.
The CBI has also filed a chargesheet against the three men in a special court in Bhubaneswar. The court has remanded them in judicial custody.
