NEW DELHI: By poll to the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat which fell vacant following the death of Mulayam Sigh Yadav will be held on December 5th, said the Election commission on Saturday. Besides the notification released, also mentioned the dates for by-poll to five assembly constituencies spread across as many states.

The leader of the Samajwadi party Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away last month from a prolonged illness.

The Rampur assembly, in UP, fell vacant after the disqualification of SP leader Mohammed Khan. Khan was the MLA for Rampur, he was disqualified by the speaker after he was convicted and sentenced a three-year jail in a case of hate speech registered against him in April 2019.

On October 9th, the Sardarshahar constituency in Rajasthan fell vacant after the demise of Congress MLA Bhanwar Lal Sharma.

Padampur in Orissa, Kurhani in Bihar, and Bhanupratappur in Chhattisgarh are also set to witness by-polls. The counting of votes for the single parliamentary and five assembly seats will be done on December 8th. It is worth noting that the counting dates for the by-poll coincide with Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh assembly ballot count
