A tragic event was witnessed on Wednesday in Jammu and Kashmir as the bus of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) fell into the River Sindh after plunging off the Kullan bridge. The accident has triggered the emergency mega rescue plan that is going on in full swing.

Officials said that an accident had occurred in the Ganderbal district. Troops of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) of Ganderbal, as well as the SDRF sub-component stationed at Gund, Kullan, reached the spot within a short time after learning about the dispute. The trapped personnel was searched and a coordinated rescue effort was initiated to rescue the trapped personnel.

Rescue workers have been reported to fight against the odds since the high water currents of the river and the steep hills towards the bridge are making their work not so easy. SDRF also issued a video depicting their search efforts in attempting to reach the bus and save the jawans who were either onboard the bus or carried by the flow of the river.

The local governments and other emergency facilities have participated, and there are also arrangements with the nearby hospitals to transfer injured patients to give them immediate medical attention. The number of jawans onboard is yet to be confirmed, and the officials have not yet given the actual number of casualties. Possible updates of the rescue operation are expected.

ITBP personnel often use this route, and therefore, this incident has been a cause of concern because the route is treacherous due to the mountainous roads and narrow bridges. The cause of the accident is under investigation by authorities to determine whether adverse weather or failure of the vehicle as a technical issue was a part of the cause.

Additional details are to be awaited, but as of now, efforts are on to carry out the rescue operation and make sure all personnel onboard are safe.
