Parliament Budget session is likely to start on January 28, and the Union Budget is set to be presented on February 1 which is on a Sunday. As indicated by the officials who are conversant with the rough schedule that has been adopted by the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, President Droupadi Murmu is expected to address both Houses during a joint sitting on the first day of the session. The opening of the first Parliamentary term of the year is customarily marked by the speech by the President who determines the legislative agenda of the forthcoming months.
On the next day, January 29, the two Houses will not meet because of the ceremony of beating of the Retreat and it is an annual ceremony that brings an end to the Republic Day festival. Parliament will start business again on January 30, and the Economic Survey will presumably be tabled. The survey gives an in-depth evaluation of the economic performance of the country in the last year and also acts as a lead up to the Union Budget giving important insights and policy guiding directions that will inform the government on how it will plan its finances.
The Union Budget as such will be tabled on February 1. Discussion of the Motion of Thanks to the President address together with the debate on the Budget will follow the presentation in the two Houses. Thereafter, the Parliament is set to go on recess of almost a month beginning February 13.
The session will reopen on March 9, with the further legislative and discussion of different bills, policies and parliamentary questions. The session of the Budget is scheduled to finish on April 2, which is a Thursday and this will bring an end to one of the most important parliamentary sessions of the year. This is an especially important session because it establishes the economic and legislative agenda of the government, defines fiscal priorities, and offers a platform to discuss the issues of the policy in detail.
