DELHI: Prime minister Narendra modi will be addressing the nation at 8pm today. Prime minister is expected to make an announcement on the existing lockdown in the country, to contain the spread of coronavirus. This will be the fourth time, PM will be addressing the nation in the last 2 months.
Taking to Twitter, the prime minister’s office said, “Shri @narendramodi will be addressing the nation at 8 PM this evening.”
This announcement came a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held meeting with the state chief ministers. The main aim of the meeting was to discuss the post-lockdown strategy.
Meanwhile, Covid-19 cases in India have seen a dramatic surge in the past two weeks. In the last 24 hours, 3,604 cases and 87 deaths were recorded. The total number of corona cases rose to 70,827 as of Tuesday and death toll hit 2,294. Globally, 4,256,076 people have been infected so far, and the total number of deaths from the disease now stands at 287,336.
The nationwide lockdown that began on 25th March is set to end on 17th May. Earlier too, PM Modi addressed the nation to reach the masses about the news of lockdown and thereafter to motivate people to participate in “Tali-Thali”and Diya Jalao initiatives to show gratitude to the front line workers amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
