NEW DELHI: Both houses of the parliament are adjourned for the day amidst deepening protests by the opposition demanding a JCP probe on the Adani Group matter and counter-protests by BJP over Rahul Gandhi’s remarks.
Rahul Gandhi who recently arrived from his week-long trip to the UK arrived at the parliament today as it resumed its proceedings after being adjourned in the morning.
“I didn’t speak anything anti-India (in London seminar). If they will allow I will speak inside the parliament, said Congress MP Rahul Gandhi responding to questions from the media reporters. Gandhi donned a smile and decided to remain silent as the reporters thronged him.
Earlier in the day, opposition MPs formed a human chain to protest outside Parliament over the Adani row and demand a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe.
On Wednesday, the BJP escalated its offensive against Rahul Gandhi over his remarks about democracy in India, saying the grand old party has been brought to “political perish” by the people.
Meanwhile, the Congress accused the government of “undermining and weakening” democracy in the country by stalling Parliament to save a businessman. The Congress along with several other opposition parties also took out a protest march from Parliament House to hand over a complaint to the Enforcement Directorate on the Adani issue. However, they were stopped by the police at Vijay Chowk.
Ever since the second leg of the Budget session commenced on March 13th, the houses have been paralyzed repeatedly. As per the records, about 26 Bills are currently pending in the Rajya Sabha and close to 9 in the Lok Sabha for passage. Two Bills – The Multi-State Co-operative Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2022, and The Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2022 were referred to a Joint Committee by the government last Winter Session and they are currently being examined by the panel.
