New Delhi: On Tuesday, Delhi Police said that more than half a dozen shopping malls and well-known places in the national capital had received bomb threats through email. There are also other prospective venues that we aim to target, such as Chanakya Mall, Select City Walk, Ambience Mall, DLF, Cinepolis, Pacific Mall, Primus Hospital, and Unity Group. These were mere threats of blowing up explosives in the next few hours of sending the email.
The management of these places, without hesitation, informed the police after the receipt of the emails. In this regard, Delhi Police have opened an immediate investigation into the threats. The Bomb Disposal Squad and fire services have found their way to look at the said areas, but up to now, no bombs have been recovered.
A senior police officer said that the threats are seemingly similar, as several places receive messages that are either identical to or similar to the other. For this reason, this pattern implies that the threats may be coming from one source and, therefore, not sheer incidents. Even now, police work is aimed at tracing the threats’ genesis, as the ongoing probe reveals.
This incident comes close on the heels of a bomb threat received at Ambience Mall, Gurugram, three days back. In that case, authorities also react quickly with the aid of the bomb detection units, the dog squad, and the SWAT team. After undertaking searches, police could not find any prohibited items in the mall. The cyber teams are already in the process of monitoring the originator of the email to avoid further threats.
Even before this incident, on August 2, a school in Greater Kailash, South Delhi, received an email threat about a bomb blast. Many other such threats have been issued at schools, colleges, malls, and even hospitals nationwide. To date, all of these threats have been a bluff, yet they have triggered vast security measures and investigations whenever they arrived.
Delhi Police and other related departments are still trying to secure the public and nab the culprits behind these nasty threats.
