On Wednesday, the police commenced an investigation after the Tamil Nadu DGP’s office received bomb threat emails warning of potential attacks on the residences of three DMK ministers in Chennai and Trichy. The DMK ministers indicated in the bomb-threat emails were Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister Sekar Babu in Chennai and Education Minister Anbil Mahesh and Municipal Administration Minister KN Nehru in Trichy.
Police immediately dispatched teams, bomb detection squads, and sniffer dogs following the warnings. The officials declared false alarms with threats and searched thoroughly, concluding the shelter was not bomb threats, and there were no bomb-making materials.
According to police sources, such hoax threats are becoming increasingly routine as occurrences across the state of Tamil Nadu to indicate alerts. Following the latest hoax threat at the Tamil Nadu DGP’s office, there was a hoax threat of a bomb at the Enforcement Directorate office in Chennai that occurred on October 31.
The police have received hundreds of fake bomb emails and more recently, targeting political leaders, schools, celebrities, and consulates throughout the last several months. During early October, a series of bomb emails falsely claimed that a bomb was at the shelter of the Chief Minister MK Stalin, the Governor RN Ravi, BJP Tamil Nadu headquarters, and actor Trisha’s home. All previous alerts turned out to be a hoax.
