New Delhi: The Delhi Police said it had evacuated a building that houses the Minister of Home Affairs following a bomb threat email. Immediately, an explosion unit and firefighting vehicles were deployed at the scene tender. An official from the police force, who wishes to remain anonymous, said that the alert was initiated after North Block’s officer had received a threatening email. The search continues, and there have been no further indications of notable objects up to this point.

This act amplifies false bomb threats targeted at different institutions within the nation’s capital, such as learning institutions, airports, hospitals, and correctional centres. Similar threats have also been reported in other cities, such as Jaipur, Lucknow, Kanpur, and even Ahmedabad.

After Delhi received a hoax email with bomb threats that demanded the evacuation of students and staff from over 150 schools, the Delhi Police opened an investigation. They said that the threatening emails, with the dark origin from a mail. The hosts were believed to be from Budapest, which ran an identifiable RU server. If additional information was needed it would be necessary to cooperate with Hungarian authorities.

The source of the email was traced to ‘[email protected]’, with its domain registered in Russia is used most frequently. This is mainly because of the difficulties that arise from using VPNs, thus making it difficult to identify the sender. The police have sought help from Interpol to identify the person behind the particular email.

In relation to these incidents, the Union Home Ministry underlined the need to develop specific guidelines on how to counter such threats through proper regulations and SOPs. It also recommended integration with Delhi Police for better coordination to avoid unnecessary panic situations at schools. Additionally, the ministry called for improved security and fashionable preventive measures, including increased surveillance using CCTV cameras and monitoring of emails at learning institutions.
