A day after Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lived up to his work on assembly elections and actually allowed the people of the union territory to decide on their Representatives, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had a jibe at the opposition INDIA bloc. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla advised other members of the INDIA bloc to take lessons from Omar Abdullah’s statements.
Praising Omar Abdullah for his stand on the issues, Poowalla said that the opposition parties, especially those targeting the Election Commission of India and other aspects of the electoral system, had got their reflection from him. Poonawalla went on to lash at the opposition, Congress, AAP, and SP, calling them hypocrites. He said that several opposition parties boasted of the electoral process when they emerged victorious in their campaigns but would grossly challenge the credibility of the Election Commission when they lost.
Poonawalla said: “Whenever they win the election, they congratulate the electoral process, but when defeated – they start criticizing the Election Commission. But if Omar Abdullah has shown them a mirror, they should definitely learn something from this.”
It all started with Omar Abdullah’s comments after a speech that the Prime Minister made on Monday when he was in Jammu and Kashmir to inaugurate the 6.5-km Z-Morh tunnel, now in Ganderbal district, renamed the ‘Sonamarg Tunnel’. Abdullah also appreciated Modi for his commitment to this part of the world, further pointing out that Modi not only ensured that the assembly elections commenced but went further to ensure that the entire process was utterly free, fair, and, most significantly, free from any sort of irregularity. Omar’s comments are going to ring a bell of those, who have always doubted the credibility of the elections in the region and especially in the context of the political instability in Jammu and Kashmir in the recent past.
