New Delhi: BJP leader & Rajsamand MLA Kiran Maheshwari breathed her last yesterday in Medanta Hospital at Gurugram. She was undergoing treatment at the Gurugram hospital since she had been tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.
So far, Eight sitting MLAs (including Kiran) and three sitting MPs have succumbed to the virus till date. Among the MLAs were state Ministers as well. More than 13700 in India have died of Covid19 so far.
According to the PMO (Prime Minister’s Office), PM Modi said – “Pained by the untimely demise of Kiran Maheshwari Ji. Be it as MP, MLA, or Cabinet Minister in Rajasthan Government, she made numerous efforts to work towards the progress of the state and empower the poor as well as marginalized. Condolences to her family. Om Shanti.”
Besides PM Modi, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, BJP State President Satish Poonia, and Assembly Speaker CP Joshi condoled her untimely demise among other leaders.
Expressing grief over her demise, Rajasthan CM Gehlot Tweeted, “Saddened to know of the untimely demise of BJP leader & Rajsamand MLA Kiran Maheshwari Ji. My heartfelt condolences to her family members & supporters in this most difficult time.”
Paying tribute to Maheshwari, Satish Poonia, the BJP Chief of Rajasthan, said that her role as an organizer and a public representative was immensely effective. According to Poonia’s Tweet –
“Today, the family of the Bharatiya Janata Party is distraught with mourning. Shocked over the untimely demise of Kiran Maheshwari Ji. She was a leader of prospects, her voice in the House used to leave the opposition speechless, her role as a successful public representative and organizer was extremely effective.” (roughly translated from Hindi)
Earlier, Ms. Maheshwari has held the post of the Minister of Higher Education in the Government of Rajasthan. She has also served as national vice president, national general secretary, and chief of the women’s wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
