Lucknow: The much-awaited Uttar Pradesh urban local body (ULB) elections are coming to a close today, and the anticipation for the results is palpable. According to the election commission, 53 per cent voters casted vote out of the total 4.32 crores. The outcome will decide the fate of mayors and corporators in 17 municipal corporations, as well as chairpersons and members of nagar palika parishads and nagar panchayats.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is aiming to maintain its stronghold in the state’s urban local bodies, while the opposition parties like Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), and Congress are determined to make a comeback.
The exit poll projection is out and it’s creating quite a buzz! The BJP is leading in at least 10 municipal corporations, while Akhilesh Yadav’s SP and Mayawati’s BSP are set to take at least one nagar nigam each. The competition is neck-to-neck on five seats, making it a thrilling watch.
The results of the ULB polls are crucial as the party that secures the majority of seats will showcase its strength ahead of the 2024 general elections. With Uttar Pradesh having the maximum representation of 80 Members of Parliament in the Lok Sabha, it holds immense strategic importance in national politics.
