In a sharp riposte to Pakistan Army Chief Gen Asim Munir for his remarks regarding Pakistan’s stand on ‘two nation theory’, BJP leader Kavinder Gupta has slammed him. Munir was slammed by Gupta for referring to his speech in religious terms and asked if the Army Chief is passing his time as he makes such regressive statements. “He is talking about security instead of matters of religion.” In a statement to the media, BJP Leader Gupta said the world knows how Pakistan has been consistently urging India through terrorism and religious conversions.

The remarks were made by General Munir during the Overseas Pakistanis Convention held in Islamabad. India is fundamentally different from Pakistan in every facet — religion, customs, traditions, thoughts and ambitions and therefore Pakistani children should be taught about the differences — his assertion. His statements were aimed at buttressing the two nation theory and in further justification of Pakistan’s religious foundations as a separate Islamic state.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) dismissed his statement as unfounded and misleading after Munir responded to his additional remarks on Kashmir, which includes describing the region as Pakistan’s “jugular vein.” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, in a press briefing in New Delhi, shot back saying: “Asked how anything foreign could be in jugular vein, MEA spokesperson responds sharply. Jammu and Kashmir is an Indian union territory. Pakistan’s only link with it is that Pakistan has to vacate the territories it has illegally occupied.”

Pakistan’s top military leadership have no standing or relevance on the global stage on this matter as the Indian government has been forthright in claiming that Kashmir is an integral part of India. Both Gupta and the MEA’s remarks reflect India’s stance of refusing to allow Pakistan to internationalise internal matters.
