Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy lodged a formal complaint with the Election Commission against Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah in a social media post.

In his complaint, Narayanaswamy cited Kharge’s recent social media post where he questioned the timing of Central agencies’ actions and criticized the enforcement agencies’ conduct. Kharge’s post referred to the Prime Minister and Home Minister with terms deemed offensive by Narayanaswamy, who deemed the use of the phrase “Chandal Shishya” as unconstitutional and potentially violating the SC/ST Act.

Expressing his concerns to reporters, Narayanaswamy emphasized that such language directed at the Prime Minister is unacceptable and filed a formal complaint with the Election Commission regarding the matter.

Additionally, BJP Yuva Morcha activists staged a protest near Priyank Kharge’s residence in Sadashivanagar in response to his social media post. However, police intervened and detained the protestors.

The incident comes in the wake of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s recent arrest following his failure to comply with nine summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate and Delhi High Court. Kejriwal’s arrest relates to alleged irregularities and money laundering associated with the Delhi excise policy of 2022, which was subsequently revoked.

This arrest follows the earlier detention of K Kavitha, a leader of the Bharat Rashta Samithi (BRS) and daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, in connection with money laundering allegations linked to the aforementioned excise policy. Prior to this, Manish Sisodia, the then Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, was arrested by the CBI on February 26, while on October 5, Sanjay Singh, a Rajya Sabha member, was arrested by the ED.

The sequence of events underscores the escalating political tensions and legal battles unfolding in the backdrop of the ongoing investigations into alleged financial irregularities and misconduct among political leaders.
