In response to Congress fielding Kishori Lal Sharma in place of Rahul Gandhi in Amethi, the BJP accuses the Gandhi family of sidelining Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Robert Vadra. Amit Malviya of the BJP had lashed out at the scions of the Nehru-Gandhi family, using charges that Vadra’s notoriety still had not overshadowed what they had considered an impeccable record in the constituency. In addition to this, Malviya predicts that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra might come across as someone who would often contradict the rules and ideas of the Congress party.
In an oratory, Malviya raised a question: why was Vadra’s statement, which still attracts many people into the Amethi district, declined? Chidambaram also attacks the proceedings of the Rahul Gandhi supporters of side-lining both Priyanka Vadra and her husband within the Congress. A month ago, Robert Vadra had subtle yet strong hints at his desire to enter into active politics and confirmed that people had always supported him. He claimed, however, that if the leadership is of the opinion that he can transform the country, he may consider running in such a contest. Vadra clarified that it was an option to contest from Amethi, too, but it could be from Moradabad or Haryana that he might also consider contesting.
Vadra’s declaration was seen as an indication of intention to face the Lok Sabha polls from Amethi, previously a stronghold of the Congress Party. From his endorsement in Amethi in 2004 until he lost his place to Priya Dutt of the BJP in 2019, Rahul Gandhi represented Amethi three times in the Lok Sabha. Thereafter, Rahul Gandhi, nominated by his party from Rae Bareli, followed suit and occupied the particular seat as it was left behind by his mother, Sonia Gandhi.
The BJP’s criticism of the manner in which the leadership of the Congress has dealt with the issue of Priyanka and the Vadras’ treatment underlines the internal strife within the party with the upcoming elections looming once again. Every passing day and emerging political development shape the actions and reactions of the core persons in the Congress party. These individuals gradually contribute to the complexity of the plot, which further convolutes the political scenario.
