On Friday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had made scathing remarks against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, claiming he is misusing Punjab state funds on luxuries. The Delhi BJP alleged in a post on X that Kejriwal had been assigned a government bungalow in Chandigarh, Sector 2, with a 7 star and 2 acre quota of the Punjab chief minister and alleged that he had been building a new Sheesh Mahal 2.0.
Referring to Kejriwal as the Super CM of Punjab, the BJP accused the AAP leader, who positions himself as an aam aadmi (common man) of indulging at the expense of the populace. The party posted an alleged satellite picture of the property and alleged that this represented the hypocrisy of the AAP. The BJP post said that after leaving the Sheesh Mahal in Delhi, the so-called Super CM of Punjab, Arvind Kejriwal has now readied an even bigger home in Chandigarh.
To further add to the scandal, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal also complained that Kejriwal has been operating Punjab government airplanes to personal and party business. She alleged that the AAP chief boarded government helicopter at his home in Ambala to Gujarat to do political work and then boarded a Punjab government jet in Gujarat claiming that the whole Punjab government is being used to serve a single man.
The assault of the BJP against this background is in relation to the 2024 controversy of the Sheesh Mahal, in Delhi, during which Kejriwal was alleged to have flouted construction laws when he hired to refurbish his official residence on 6 Flag Staff Road. The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) had already provided a report on unauthorized demolitions of government bungalows and amalgamation of plots without a layout approval.
The new charges of Chandigarh have again sparked the discussion of the simplicity and luxury of the leaders of AAP.
