New Delhi: Prez Ramnath Kovind signed the bill to repeal the three farm laws that witnessed immaculate protests across the nation since1 year especially from Haryana, Punjab, and western Uttar Pradesh.
The Parliament on Monday passed the bill to cancel the farm laws under the name Farm Laws Repeal Bill, 2021. The centre’s farm laws has been repealed been repealed at the fastest repeal in recent years amid the protests by the opposition parties. The bill was tabled by the Union Agriculture Minister at the Rajya Sabha just after resumption from temporary adjournment.
The repealment of the farm laws came as a surprise announcement by PM Modi on 19 November months ahead of the poll scheduled in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. However, the farmers were adamant on holding protests unless the union passed a bill in the parliament nullifying the three contentious farm laws.
The three contentious farm laws were enacted an year ago, named Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, and Essential Commodities Bill. The bills attracted huge protests from the farmers according to whom the laws were curated in lieu of farmers rights on their yields.
