Bihar: A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court amidst the hue and cry in half a dozen villages of Mashrak of Saran in Bihar due to the death of people after drinking spurious liquor. In the petition, a demand has been made to get the matter investigated by the SIT. The petitioner has demanded that an independent inquiry be conducted into the matter.

Along with this, a demand has also been made in the petition to prepare an action plan to curb the manufacture, trade, and sale of illegal liquor. The PIL has also demanded compensation to the families of the victims. Apparently, the series of deaths that started from Tuesday in several villages of Mashrak of Saran, is not taking the name of stopping. Till Friday morning, the figure of those who lost their lives has reached 60. Meanwhile, there is news that four people have died after drinking spurious liquor in the Sodhani and Brahma Sthan villages of Bhagwanpur block in Siwan as well.

Reacting to the deaths due to spurious liquor, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said on Thursday that whoever drinks will eventually die. “Consumption of alcohol is banned in Bihar. People need to be explained this. Catch the one who is drinking and motivate him to do good work. We have implemented the prohibition on drinking alcohol on the will of Bapu and the women of Bihar”, the CM said.

Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey lashed out at Nitish. He said that the way deaths are taking place in Bihar today due to spurious liquor, it is a matter of concern. “Our Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has lost his cool and is lashing out at the public and saying that whoever drinks will surely die. There should be an FIR against such people. He said that Nitish Kumar’s government is ineffective. Someone is running the government from behind. Now the shadow of Nitish Kumar has ended. Nitish Babu, you resign. The whole market of corruption is hot behind liquor ban. There are a lot of alcoholics around you”, Choubey said. Further probe is on against the case by the Bihar police.
