Patna: Floods have gripped Patna district as the Ganges river continues to rise rapidly, affecting blocks including Maner, Danapur, Patna Sadar, Barh, and Mokama. The district administration has confirmed that over 50,000 people have been impacted.

District Collector Dr. Tyagarajan SM visited flood-affected areas, including Digha Patipul, Minar Ghat, and Kurji Bindtoli Ghat on Wednesday and reviewed the relief work there. He also met and talked to the affected people.

The rising water has submerged homes and cut off road connectivity, leaving thousands stranded. Relief and rescue operations are underway, with the administration deploying boats for evacuation and setting up relief camps. Authorities are urging residents in low-lying areas to move to higher ground as the water level is expected to rise further.

The water level of the Ganga is rising rapidly

The water level of the the River Ganga is rising continuously by more than 1 centimeter per hour. In the last 24 hours the water level of Gandhi Ghat has increased from 49.57 meters to 49.87 meters, Digha Ghat from 50.81 meters to 51.10 meters, Maner from 52.74 meters to 52.99 meters, Hathidah from 42.48 meters to 42.74 meters, Koilwar (River Son) from 53.01 meters to 53.51 meters. The water has flooded the roads in the low-lying areas and many villages have been completely submerged. While many roads have been submerged due to the flood, many villages have lost connectivity.

11 special teams formed for relief

The administration has formed 11 teams for relief work, which include SDM, DSP, CO and police station in-charge. These teams are delivering relief material to the needy immediately. Along with this, three relief camps have been set up, where community kitchens, primary treatment and fodder for animals have also been arranged. Community kitchens are also operational in Barh and Mokama.
