Bharat Bandh: Train services affected at 32 locations, 4 Shatabdi trains cancelled; Milk and Vegetable Supplies Hindered

New Delhi: As the farmers continue to protest against the contentious agricultural laws set by the government; the cluster stages an all India strike today. This strike is held to mark their 4 months of struggle at the Delhi borders in an attempt to repeal the laws. Such kind of mass strikes have also been held in the past also. 

Trains from Delhi to Chandigarh, Amritsar, Kalka among other destinations were cancelled this morning. Demonstrations were also reported at National Highway-9 near one of three protest epicentres in the national capital – the Ghazipur border. Policemen have set up barricades to block the movement of protesters. Roadblocks have also been reported. 

According to Indian Railways, Protesters are sitting at 31 locations across Punjab and Haryana spanning Delhi, Ambala & Firozepur division affecting rail movement.

Darshan Pal, leader of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha leader released a video message that said,”   supplies of vegetables and milk will also be stopped by the protesting farmers.” The protesting unions head body has appealed the farmers to be peaceful and not present any violence during their protest. Senior farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal quoted,” Farmers will block rail tracks in various places. Markets and transport services will be closed during ”Bharat Bandh”.

The all-India Strike began at 6 am and is expected to continue till the evening. However, CAIT, which claimed representation of eight crore traders in the country, said that markets will remain open on March 26 as it is not participating in the” Bharat Bandh”.  Despite several reiterations, the government hasn’t yet released any statement on the reconsideration of the laws.
