Kolkata: On Monday morning, The Deputy Magistrate of Hooghly district Debdatta Ray, 38 year old died due to covid-19 leaving behind her husband and a 4 year old son.
Earlier in the month, Debdatta was having symptoms of covid-19 and advised for a home quarantine which was located in the Dum Dum area of north Kolkata.
On Sunday, Debdatta started facing shortness of breath and was immediately rushed to the Shramjivi Hospital in Serampore where Debdatta lost her battle against covid-19 and took her last breath on Monday morning.
She was a government officer working as the frontline worker of west Bengal and had been in-charge of a train carrying migrants into Hooghly district in Bengal and the campus where they had a house to live.
On Monday Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee expressed her heartfull consideration on her Twitter, saying, “Grieved to hear about the untimely passing away of Debdatta Ray…A young WBCS (EXE Officer) ,she was at the forefront, fighting the pandemic and displaced outstanding devotion in discharge of her duties.”
Banerjee has also reached out to Ray’s husband.
Debdatta was applauded and appreciated for her humane and sensitive handling of the difficult situation.
Debdatta Ray was an officer of the 2010 batch of West Bengal Civil Service (WBCS) and stationed as a Block Development Officer (BDO) at Purulia before Transferring to Chandannagar as a Deputy Magistrate All her Colleagues were shocked and overwhelmed at her passing.
Debdatta was a kind hearted officer who would never hesitate to make a cup of tea for her juniors, they said.
