Anticipating a rush to exchange Rs. 2000 notes for smaller denominations, banks today geared up to tackle the crowd, a day after RBI issued a standard operating procedures (SOP) to banks to streamline the process. Meanwhile, Punjab National Bank said that “No Aadhar Card, No official verified documents (OVD) required, no need to fill any form is the current instruction to all the branches of Punjab National Bank.”
In a bid to curb misinformation and confusion, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued a fresh notification clarifying that no additional information is required from depositors to exchange ₹2,000 banknotes. This comes in the wake of old bank forms circulating online, causing unnecessary panic among the public.
The State Bank of India (SBI) has also dismissed such rumours, assuring customers that they can exchange their notes without any requisition slip. With this latest notification, the RBI aims to put to rest all doubts and ensure a smooth and hassle-free exchange process for everyone.
The Clean Note Policy given out by RBI says that the swapping of rupees 2000 notes is set to begin from today. Therefore, the Central Bank also told that there will be no requirement of documents or form filling to exchange the notes.
