Different bank in India shall have different shutdowns during the Dussehra festival, also referred to as Vijaya Dashami, Dasara, or Dashain. Having it as a public holiday across the country, this Hindu celebration symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and has great cultural and spiritual meaning.

Dussehra festival falls on the tenth date of the bright fortnight (shukla paksha) of the Ashvin (Ashwayuja) month in the Hindu calendar. The celebrations include attending prayer meetings, preparing meals and offerings to the gods at home or in temples, and handing out fairs and large processions in which effigies of Ravana are burned on huge piles of fireworks to represent the victory of Ram over the demon Ravana.

October 10: Tripura, Assam, Nagaland, and West Bengal banks will remain shut for Durga Puja/Dussehra (Maha Saptami).

October 11: Several states crossing quad-million, such as Tripura, Karnataka, and Odisha celebrating Dussehra (Mahashtami/Mahanavami) & Ayudha Pooja, Tamil Nadu & Assam & Sikkim & Arunachal Pradesh & Manipur & Nagaland & West Bengal & Bihar & Jharkhand & Meghalaya banking for Durga Puja (Dasain)/Durga Ashtami.

October 12: Because this day falls on the second Saturday of the month, banks will remain shut throughout the country on Dasara/Dussehra (Mahanavami/Vijayadashami)/Durga Puja (Dasain).

October 13: Banks will be closed for this Sunday again.

October 14: Durga Puja or Dasain, will be the bank holiday to be observed in Sikkim.

October 16: Most of the banks in Tripura and West Bengal will remain shut for Lakshmi Puja.

October 17: Banks in Karnataka, Assam, and Himachal Pradesh would remain closed for operations for Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti/Kati Bihu.

October 26: Banks will remain shut in Jammu and Srinagar due to Accession Day.

October 31: All other states bank will remain closed for Diwali/Kali Puja/Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s Birthday/Naraka Chaturdashi except for Tripura, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Manipur and Meghalaya.
