On Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh recalled the Indian High Commissioner to express the issue of the safety of the Bangladeshi diplomatic missions, as the unrest was increasing throughout the country. The relocation is made because the internal security situation in Bangladesh is still worsening after a turn of bloody events involving political leaders, activists and media individuals.

The threats have led to increased security being reportedly given to at least 20 high-profile figures such as senior political figures and journalists. Some of the people who are given armed protection include the editors of major newspapers such as Prothom Alo and The Daily Star. The decision was made after the leader of the National citizen party (NCP) Motaleb Sikder was critically wounded when he was shot in the head in Khulna, and taken to the hospital to receive emergency treatment.

The political heightened tensions have followed the alarming warning by the platform of the student leader, Sharif Osman Hadi, through the Inqilab Moncho, that he would lead a mass movement in case of failure to administer justice. The group has threatened to spearhead the ousting of the Muhammad Yunus-led government which the group accuses the government of not upholding law and order as well as safeguarding the dissenting voices.

The violence is also starting to affect the country outside Bangladesh. In some sections of India, there have been protests where protesters seek justice on the recent killing of a Hindu man in Mymensingh district of Bangladesh. The allegations were that the victim was assaulted due to her blasphemy and this caused an uproar among the minority groups and human rights activists.

The new violence arose last week, after the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi, who is a notable student leader and who organized last year the July uprising against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Hadi passed away at a hospital in Singapore several days after he was shot in Dhaka, a fact that made people angry again and triggered political unrest.
