Jammu: At least three people were killed and two others are missing after a cloudburst hit the Rajgarh area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district on Saturday, officials said. A rescue operation is underway. From August 14 to 26, at least 138 lives have been lost in rain-related incidents in Kishtwar, Kathua and Reasi districts.

The Met department has predicted one or two spells of rain and thunder at a few places in the Jammu division from Friday afternoon and towards late night till September 2.

In a statement to news media, Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Sharma said that recent heavy rains have damaged several roads. He noted that NH-44 is currently closed, but could reopen as soon as this evening or by tomorrow morning. Sharma added that Poonch has also seen significant damage from the rainfall induced by cloudburst.

He also mentioned that he personally visited Mughal Road to oversee the removal of roadblocks, stating that the road is now clear for essential transport. He believes the situation will be under control by this evening.

A yellow alert was issued on Friday for several districts, including Poonch, Reasi, and Rajouri, warning of thunderstorms and lightning. An orange alert, indicating a higher possibility of heavier rain, has been issued for Saturday and Sunday in Poonch, Kishtwar, Jammu, Ramban, and Udhampur.
