Assam has been gripped with the flood situation as 16.50 lakh people have been affected in 29 districts of the state. Major rivers flowing in Assam are already above the danger level, said an official bulletin on July 4. Brahmaputra, Digaru, and Kollong rivers are flowing above the red mark. An alert has been sounded in Kamrup district with vast tracts of land inundated.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa shall visit the flood-affected areas in Temple Ghat, Pandu Port and Maligaon area in Guwahati Metropolitan area on Thursday. He inspected Guwahati and is now en route to Majuli, updated the chief minister through a post on social media.
Earlier on Wednesday night, he chaired a meeting on the flood situation with all the District Commissioners. CM Biswa also directed the District commissioners to be liberal in granting relief as per norms and complete all rehabilitation as per the norms before August 15.
