Guwahati: A doctor and his wife, blamed for pouring hot water on their 12-year-old domestic helper while he was sleeping, were arrested from Nagaon in Assam on Saturday night, police said.

Siddhi Prasad Deuri, a specialist of Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh, and his significant other Mitali Konwar, Principal of Moran College, have been on the run.

Sidhi Prasad Deuri purportedly had, in an intoxicated state, poured heated water on the kid when he was resting in their home in Dibrugarh, while Mitali Konwar, an observer to the incident, has been blamed for not giving any clinical treatment.

Director General of Police (Law and Order) GP Singh said, “The couple, needed for causing consumer injury to the underage household help in Dibrugarh, has been arrested from Nagaon,”.

The incident became visible when the District Child Welfare Committee saved the kid on August 29 subsequent to accepting a video from a mysterious source, and educated the police. He is currently in a kid care centre.

The police have recorded his statement and enrolled an argument against the couple under different segments of the Child and Adolescent Labour Prohibition Act and Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.

The police had gone to the couple’s living apartment to grill them, however found that Sidhi Prasad Deuri, a cancer patient, was being administered saline. They had requested that the two report to the local police headquarters at the earliest.

The couple, however, fled and the police propelled an inquiry activity to arrest them.
