New Delhi: All centrally protected monuments, sites and museums under the ASI (Archaeological Survey of India, which were all shut down, shall reopen from June 16. Historic and important structures of the country were shut down on April 15th this year citing the resurgence due to the mutated variant of the novel virus.
“Considering the prevailing situation, it has been decided that all the Centrally Protected Monuments/ Sites and Museums (under ASI) shall be opened from 16.06.2021,” an order issued by the ASI said on Monday. As per the notice, appropriate guidelines and SOPs are issued by the Union and State/ UT Ministries/ Department in this regard which shall be strictly followed while regulating the flow of visitors.
The Union Ministry of Culture had imposed an embargo on movement in the monuments, museums and sites under the ASI in an official order, mid-April.
Restrictions on all 3693 monuments and 50 museums will be lifted, permitting movement imposing practice of strict COVID protocols.
Last year, too, all monuments and sites maintained by the ASI were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic on March 17. They reopened in July with strict restrictions like mandatory wearing of masks, a cap on the number of visitors and social distancing. The curbs were relaxed later in the year.
