On Wednesday, Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, declared that 10 lakh people across the nation will receive free training in Artificial Intelligence. The announcement was made when the country was celebrating 10 Years of Digital India in a function organised by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) at the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre in New Delhi.
The event, which was organized by the Common Service Centre e-Governance Services India Limited (CSC SPV) under MeitY, marked a decade of the Digital India initiative that has brought change in service delivery and digital accessibility in India.
In his speech as the chief guest, Vaishnaw commended the Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) that have made a great contribution in distributing digital services to all parts of the nation. “Our VLE brothers and sisters have given us the example of how Digital India can strengthen even the most distant villages. When people of the world were not sure whether a vegetable seller or a tea seller could use digital payments, India stood out as the opposite. The UPI transactions today have overtaken Visa payments worldwide. That is the power of 1.4 billion Indians,” he said.
Also present who spoke at the event was Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Jitin Prasada. Prasada emphasized the fact that we were in the era of AI, which was developing rapidly, saying the following: “We now live in the era of AI and it is developing at a fast pace. It is necessary to employ new technologies so as to introduce positive changes in the life of people and guarantee all inclusive growth.”
Prasada urged people to be aware, build capacity, and consider cybersecurity, particularly in the agricultural, health, and education sectors. He proposed the idea of letting Village Level Entrepreneurs provide Update Client Lite, services of the state government, in an attempt to increase their income and influence.
As the supreme dignitaries were officially welcomed, Sanjay Rakesh, Managing Director & CEO of CSC SPV, made a speech where he said the Gates of CSC centres have done away with the need to travel to cities to access government services by citizens.
