Officials confirmed that Arvind Shrivastava accepted the role of Secretary for the Department of Revenue within the Union Ministry of Finance on Thursday. Shrivastava belongs to the 1994 batch of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Karnataka cadre.
A massive top-level bureaucratic change received approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on April 18, 2025, before his appointment as Department of Revenue Secretary. Arvind Shrivastava was assigned to lead one important department under the Finance Ministry after a major restructuring by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on April 18, 2025.
Before Shrivastava received his current post, he operated as an Additional Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) from March 25, 2021, until his promotion. During this time, he managed personnel and general administration activities. Shrivastava previously served as the Joint Secretary in the PMO starting from September 4, 2019. His tenure at the PMO stands out as significant because it handles administrative coordination together with governance matters.
Shrivastava brought experience from the Department of Economic Affairs with him when he began work as the Joint Secretary on May 10, 2018, until taking the role at the PMO. With his detailed understanding of financial ministry operations, Shrivastava demonstrates proper qualifications to serve as the new revenue secretary.
Through his time in Karnataka government positions, Shrivastava gained experience together with central government service. His professional career includes development officer work at the Asian Development Bank, followed by two separate secretary positions in Karnataka state government departments, and his role as Managing Director of the Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development & Finance Corporation.
Shrivastava comes from Uttar Pradesh and obtained a civil engineering degree and earned postgraduate degrees in economics from Mysore and finance from the University of London.
