Security forces in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir were put on maximum alert on Monday, August 5, as the region observed the anniversary of the scrapping of Article 370 in the Indian Constitution. This important date, which resulted in the abolishment of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, has increased security threats.
Considering the threats, the local police have declared a ‘dry day’ warning against the movement of security convoy and Amarnath Yatra pilgrims between base camps. No fresh batches of pilgrims were allowed to start from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp towards Kashmir to prevent any mishap. ”The yatra has been stopped for the day as a preventive measure,” an official elaborated, “No new batch of the pilgrims has been allowed to proceed to the Valley today. ”
While, as a precaution to counter any security threat, different events and programs have been banned in the state, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is going to conduct a rally with ‘Ekatma Mahatsav’ on occasion at Bana Singh Stadium at R S Pura. The event revolves around the agenda of celebrating the concept of ‘Akat Nazuk Zaat,’ which refers to the ‘complete integration’ with the Indian Union. Measures of public security have been taken to ensure that there is order around the area of the rally celebration. The J&K BJP General Secretary and the former MLC, Vibodh Gupta, opined and said, “August 5, 2019, was one of the glorious days that corrected a historical wrong done. The people of Jammu and Kashmir are fully integrated into India, have their rights, and are developing well. ”
The Congress, PDP, and other opposition parties have noted the BJP’s revelry following the abrogation of Article 370. Congress leader Ravinder Sharma demanded to know what has been achieved in the last five years, clearly pointing fingers at the BJP and stating that they lack sensitivity. He said that the nullification of Article 370, under which he says the identity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir has been diluted, has been hailed.
