Anantnag: After a fierce encounter between Indian Army and the terrorists in Anantnag of Jammu and Kashmir, Army’s assault dog ‘Zoom’ died late Thursday evening. During the encounter on Monday, Zoom had attacked the terrorists, due to which two terrorists were badly injured. The terrorists opened fire on Zoom, but he continued his take on the terrorists. Despite three days of treatment, Zoom bid adieu to this world.
Zoom, a Malinois or Belgian shepherd was a little over 2 years old and was active in service for the last eight months. Zoom was a part of Army’s 28 Army Dog Unit (ADU). He was tasked with clearing the house where terrorists were hiding when during the operation he received two gunshot injuries on the face and rear right leg on October 10. However, he continued his task, Indian Army said in their statement.
Earlier in July, another assault canine, Axel was killed in a counter-terrorist operation in Kashmir Valley. He was posthumously awarded ‘Mention-in-Despatches’- the highest gallantry award that an army dog is given for his service in counter-insurgency operations.
