BJP MP Anurag Thakur, a member of the NDA-BJP fact-finding team, which visited Karur following the tragic stampede, has called on the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin to come to Karur and take direct command of the situation, and submit a thorough report immediately. The stampede occurred on September 27 at a mass rally of an organisation called Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor Vijay. This accident caused the death of 41 individuals and left other people injured. Preliminary evidence has shown that poor crowd management and preventive measures are some of the reasons behind the tragedy.

Thakur demanded a thorough investigation into the incident in a formal letter to the Chief Minister, covering several areas of the incident. He requested the report to clearly indicate the cause of the stampede, chronology of events, action taken by authorities to control the crowd, and any lapses observed. He further emphasized the need to outline the course of action in the future to avoid such tragedies in future large gatherings.

I beseech you to assume full control of this, and demand of the responsible authorities a report as soon as possible, Thakur wrote. He pointed out essential items to be contained in the report- major reasons as to why the incident occurred, crowd management policies embraced by the administration, findings of preliminary investigations and recommended precautionary measures.

Thakur also demanded that the state government should reveal the measures being enforced to enhance the security of people in big events in the future.

On September 30, an eight-member NDA-BJP team visited the government hospital in Karur to meet the injured and to help the families of the victims. Leaders like Hema Malini (convener), Aparajita Sarangi, Tejasvi Surya, Braj Lal, Rekha Sharma, Shrikant Shinde (Shiv Sena), Putta Mahesh Kumar (Telugu Desam Party), and Anurag Thakur were also part of the delegation.
