Andra Pradesh: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy performed ‘Bhoomi Pujan’ for the reconstruction of nine temples that were demolished as part of development works during Krishna Pushkarams in 2016, in Vijayawada on Friday.

The Chief Minister also laid foundation stones for the other eight development works worth Rs 77 crore at Durga Temple. He unveiled two plaques at the construction site of the Saneeswara Swamy Temple. Later, he visited Durga Temple atop Indrakeeladri. Temple priests and Vedic scholars offered him a traditional welcome.

Temples that will be reconstructed in the district are Rahu-Kethu Temple which will cost worth Rs 70 lakhs followed by Sri Anjaneya Swamy Temple (Rs 20 lakhs), Sri Seethamma Vari Padalu (Rs 9.5 lakhs), Dakshinamukha Anjaneyaswamy Temple (Rs 31.5 lakhs), Saneeswara Swamy Temple (Rs 2 crores), Sri Dasanjaneya Swamy Temple (Rs 10 lakhs), Boddu Bomma (Rs 8 lakhs), Sri Veera Babu Swamy Temple (Rs 10 lakhs), Gosala Krishna Temple (Rs 20 lakhs).

The Endowments Department will construct the temples, and the Municipal Administration Department will look after the beautification works.

CM Reddy later released the Endowments Department calendar and congratulated the officials for bringing out a nice calendar that depicts all important rituals of main temples in the state. He suggested the officials focusing on temple tourism and chalk out plans accordingly to develop the same.

It is to be noted that the Andhra Pradesh government has been coming across continuous attacks from the opposition for repeated cases of vandalism at Hindu temples across the state. The BJP and the TDP have been raising concern over the attacks on temples and have even demanded a CBI probe.
