New Delhi: Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned till 2 pm on Wednesday after Opposition MPs raised a ruckus in the Parliament over One Nation One Election Bill, and Amit Shah’s closing remarks over Constitution debate. MPs from the Congress party are planning to raise the remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah “insulting BR Ambedkar” in the Parliament today, after the BJP leader concluded the Constitution debate in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday evening.

Earlier on Tuesday, on the 75th anniversary of the Constitution, Home Minister Amit Shah speaking in the Rajya Sabha during a discussion on the Constitution said that our Constitution has become stronger than ever before, the roots of democracy in the country are deep, it has shattered the arrogance and pride of many dictators. Those who used to say that India will not be able to become economically self-reliant, today we are the fifth largest economy in the world. This is a moment of pride for all of us.

Home Minister Amit Shah, in Rajya Sabha, took a jibe at Rahul Gandhi for carrying the Constitution of India everywhere.

“The 54-year-old leader who calls himself ‘yuva’, keeps roaming around with the Constitution claiming that we would change the Constitution. I want to tell that the provision to amend the Constitution is within the Constitution… BJP has ruled for 16 years and we made 22 changes to the Constitution… Congress ruled for 55 years and made 77 changes,” he said.

What Is The Ambedkar Row?

A political row has erupted over Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on BR Ambedkar during his address to Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. While the Congress has accused Mr Shah of insulting the architect of the Constitution, the BJP has alleged that the Opposition party was circulating clipped videos and playing cheap tricks.

Participating in the Constitution debate, Mr Shah said taking BR Ambedkar’s name had become a “fashion” now. “Abhi ek fashion ho gaya hai – Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. Itna naam agar bhagwan ka lete to saat janmon tak swarg mil jata (It has become a fashion to say Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar’. If they took God’s name so many times, they would have got a place in heaven),” he said.
