The former President of India, who served the nation from July 2007 to July 2012, is being remembered on his death anniversary, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah led the nation to pay tribute to the late Pranab Mukherjee. As a politician, Pranab Mukherjee is an experienced and respected statesman who previously held Union Minister positions in numerous governments prior to becoming India’s 13th President. He served the nation for five decades, making significant contributions to defining India’s destiny, where he performed stakeholder roles in the governance and policy framework.

On the occasion of X, Amit Shah said, “My tributes to the former president of India Dr. Pranab Mukherjee Ji on his punyatithi.” He referred to the deceased leader as “an acclaimed political leader, scholar, and an administrative genius whose journey was nothing short of inspiring. “From a small village in West Bengal to the President’s House in India, Mukherjee Ji’s life was truly illuminated, supporting governance at every step of the journey. His service would always be the source of inspiration for making this country even stronger,” said Shah.

The Honourable President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, was born on 11th December 1935 at ‘Mirati’, a small village at Birbhum District in West Bengal. His parents, Kamada Kinkar Mukherjee and Rajlakshmi, were freedom fighters. His father was a Congress leader, and he was imprisoned several times during the freedom struggle in India. Indeed, free from worldly vices and nurtured with the spirit of selfless service to the nation, this spirit was imbibed in Mukherjee from his childhood.

For many years, Pranab Mukherjee served in the central government, also occupying ministerial positions as the minister of Finance, Defence, and External Affairs, and was appointed President in 2012. He wisely always worked on good knowledge of governance, and his management skills proved exemplary when working with the complexities of political systems.

Unfortunately, on the 31st of August 2020, the nation lost one of its icons, Pranab Mukherjee, who died in Delhi’s Army Hospital due to deteriorating health after surgery on a brain clot.
