Union Home Minister Amit Shah Wednesday directed the Jammu and Kashmir administration and security agencies to intensify the ‘fight against terrorism’ and reach a ‘zero infiltration’ goal across the border. He emphasized the need to dismantle a narco network, which is making the infiltration easier, through severe measures.

These were the directives given by Shah at a high-range security meeting in Delhi, the latest of two such meetings by him in two days. It was a discussion of security operations, recent terrorist incidents and border infiltrations. The other attendees included J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau (IB) Chief Tapan Deka, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, J&K DGP Nalin Prabhat and high officials of the MHA and the union territory. On Tuesday, Shah also met Chief of the Army Staff Gen Upendra Dwivedi, Home Secretary Govind Mohan and other top officials in a similar meeting.

Shah has told security forces to ‘step up fight against terrorism, and take ruthless action against attempts of infiltration and terror related activities,’ according to a statement from the country’s Ministry of Home Affairs. Still, he added that the ultimate goal should be to ‘completly wipe out terrorism from this region.’

He also stated that narcotics trafficking is the chief source of funding for terrorist activities in J&K. He recommended security sector agencies respond in a swift and decisive manner to terror financing from drug proceeds.

Amit Shah reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policy of ‘zero tolerance’ toward terrorism and directed security agencies to keep guards on high alert and coordinate closely to take care of terrorist hazards in Jammu and Kashmir.
