Jodhpur: Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru for implementing Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir during an election rally in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for abolishing the contentious law and hoisting the Indian flag in Kashmir. Shah emphasized that PM Modi fulfilled BJP’s promises. He also commended PM Modi for initiating the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, accusing Congress of neglecting the issue for decades.
Shah’s remarks about Nehru coincided with criticism from External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who accused Nehru of dismissing the significance of the Katchatheevu island. Jaishankar cited Nehru’s statement from 1961, indicating his willingness to relinquish the island. This isn’t the first time Shah has held Nehru responsible for Kashmir’s issues. He previously blamed Nehru for declaring a ceasefire during the India-Pakistan war in 1948 and involving the UN in the Kashmir dispute.
