In the last campaign rally for the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, Union Home Minister and BJP senior leader Amit Shah directly targeted the Congress party and its leader, Rahul Gandhi, for trying to take the region ‘back into terrorism’. Cruising BJP’s political campaign in the union territory, Amit Shah renewed his attack on the Congress and its ally, the National Conference, for being ‘soft’ on terrorism. He said that the Congress-NC combine would release terrorists and stone pelters from jails, which NC vice president and former chief minister Omar Abdullah has categorically refuted.
Speaking at the rally held in Kishtwar, Shah said, “These forces are again trying to seek support for terrorism here. Some parties have even given a commitment that if they come to power, they will release these terrorists. But, let me assure you today that till Narendra Modi government is there in the country, no one will dare to spread terrorism in India. “ He also bowed to the brave martyrs of the region.
Shah also used the occasion to recall how the BJP-led federal government had, in August, withdrawn the special status of Jammu and Kashmir by revoking Article 370. He stated that Article 370 has become history, and the region today is on a new developmental and peaceful journey under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
The polls, for the 90-member assembly in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, which was last held in 2014, will be conducted in three phases, September 18, September 25, and October 1, while the counting of votes will take place on October 8.
