New Delhi: Congress General Secretary Organization Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi has decided not to celebrate her birthday on December 9 in support of farmers’ agitation against the “draconian” agriculture laws, and in view of the distress caused by COVID-19 pandemic across the country.
As per the top sources in the party, the Congress General Secretary Organization has communicated to all the in-charges of the party and PCC presidents of different states that Gandhi has decided not to celebrate her birthday this year.
“Farmers are on the street, facing the harsh climate and brutal crackdown from the Government, Congress leaders instead of celebrations should strengthen the efforts to provide relief to all those who are suffering and extend support to fighting Anndatas”, conveyed the Interim President of the party to all the in-charges.
Congress General Secretary (Organization) K.C. Venugopal further asked all the state heads through a letter to avoid all sorts of celebrations including the cake cutting.
Earlier, the Congress had announced its support to the ‘Bharat Bandh’ called by the farmers’ unions, while all the party cadres were asked to hold demonstrations at all the district headquarters in the country.
Notably, PM Modi has extended his birthday greetings to Gandhi. “Birthday greetings to Smt. Sonia Gandhi Ji. May God bless her with a long and healthy life” – tweeted Modi.
